Yassin Wahid Rabby
Postdoctoral Researcher, Wake Forest University
I am Yasin Wahid Rabby, alumni of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) and the geography department. I got my Ph.D. in Geography focused on geo-statistics and geomorphology in Fall 2021. I also got an MS in Statistics and Business Analytics from UTK. Dr. Yingkui Li supervised my dissertation, and my research was on landslide susceptibility mapping of the Chittagong Hilly Areas of Bangladesh. I am from Bangladesh and moved to UTK in the Fall of 2016. I found all the staff and faculties of the geography department ever helpful, which helped me to accommodate myself in a foreign country. I also found enough resources and opportunities from my department to carry out my research and excel in different fields of knowledge that I cherished.
Since I am passionate about academia and research, after finishing my Ph.D., I started working as a Postdoc Researcher at the Engineering Department of Wake Forest University, North Carolina. I am currently working on a project funded by NASA and developing a classification algorithm for coastal area mapping. In addition, I am using cloud-based platforms to utilize satellite-based data and applying machine learning and deep learning-based algorithms to build an improved model for coastal area mapping. From UTK Geography, I have learned skills in Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, and Machine learning which I think will be ever helpful for me in carrying out my research. This fall, I will start teaching statistics and probability as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Statistical Sciences department of Wake Forest University.
