TENNESSEE, KNOXVILLE 37996-0925. The Department of Geography at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a Professor and Head, to begin on June 1, 2021. Applicants must have the rank of full professor with tenure in the Department of Geography, leadership experience, an active research program, and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education along with public outreach. The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity, intercultural, and social justice goals of the University. The successful candidate will facilitate and strengthen a vision for the Geography and its different programs as well as broaden the Department’s participation at the campus, discipline, and community levels. The candidate is encouraged to consider aligning the department vision with the implementation of VolVision 2020 (http://top25.utk.edu/vol-vision-2020), including the strategic priorities in undergraduate education, graduate education, research, scholarship, creative activities and engagement, faculty and staff, resources and infrastructure, as well as diversity and inclusion.
The Department of Geography occupies the Burchfiel Geography Building at the heart of the Knoxville campus. The department consists of 14 full-time faculty, approximately 60 graduate students (MS and PhD), and 100 undergraduate majors, and is committed to maintaining research and teaching excellence in human geography, physical geography, GIScience, and sustainability. The department also participates in interdisciplinary degree programs in computational science, water resources, and environmental policy.
