My name is Augustine Adjartey Amam a PhD student in Geography and Sustainability at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My research interests lie at the intersection of heritage tourism, historic preservation, and community development, with a particular geographic focus on, but not limited to Ghana.

I am interested in how historic and heritage resources can be preserved and responsibly incorporated into tourism in ways that support local communities. More broadly, my research explores community participation in heritage planning and management, as well as questions of social and spatial justice, including how local communities can, and should benefit from their heritage resources through tourism.

I am advised by Derek Alderman, a cultural and historical geographer whose work examines landscapes of public memory, race, heritage tourism, social and spatial justice, and the politics of place and mobility.
