Tommy Brown

Academic Advisor

Tommy Brown serves as academic advisor with the College of Arts and Sciences, providing academic support for undergraduate students within the Department of Geography and Sustainability. Tommy meets one-on-one with students to review their course of study, find suitable classes, and help students graduate on schedule. Tommy is also involved with many departmental outreach events such as the Big Orange Welcome.

Educational Philosophy

I see education as both a right and a privilege: a right in that it should be equitably available to all, but a privilege in that it should not be void of accountability. The pursuit of knowledge for its own sake objectifies it and reduces it to a commodity. The true value in knowledge is revealed by what you do with it, or more appropriately, what it does with you. Do you allow it to lead you to something higher or deeper than yourself? When the pursuit of knowledge leads to the discovery of truth, then knowledge has fulfilled its purpose.
