Dimitris Herrera
Assistant Professor | Physical Geography
Dimitris is a climatologist from the Dominican Republic and holds an MS in Earth sciences from UNAM (Mexico) and a PhD in atmospheric science from Cornell. His research aims to understand hydroclimate variability and extremes ranging from daily to centennial time scales, especially emerging hydroclimate hazards. That includes, but is not limited to, drought, extreme precipitation events, and hydroclimate whiplash events. To this end, Dimitris combines climate modeling, statistical tools, and machine learning. Dimitris holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography & Sustainability at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
