Uhran, Bergit
Bergit Uhran
PhD Student | Physical Geography
I am a PhD candidate in Geography and Sustainability with an Intercollegiate Graduate Minor in Statistics & Data Science. My dissertation work is focused on improving forest biometric estimates in areas of high non-response in the US Forest Service (USFS) Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) National Forest Inventory (NFI) and improving methodologies for developing and validating small area estimates.
I am studying under Dr. Nicholas Nagle and my work is funded through a cooperative agreement with the US Forest Service.
My previous research focused on wetlands & forests in the conterminous United States and was conducted while I was a contracted GIS Specialist at the US Geological Survey.
Overall, my research provides better tools to understand ecosystems where traditional survey techniques are difficult or impossible to apply due to cost, inaccessibility, denial of access, or high variability.
I have a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy (concentration in Environmental Management) from George Mason University and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences (minor in Chemistry) from the University of Virginia.
Please see my website for a list of my publications.
