Career Pathways
We know anyone’s career path includes sound planning but serendipity plays a role as well, so that everyone’s experience is wholly unique. That said, it can be useful to look at the paths others have taken to serve as a reminder to follow your passion and that the journey is as important as the destination.
Kelly Baar’s Journey
Spring 2018
Studied abroad in England and discovered a passion for traveling and cultural exchange.
Was an Environmental Education Intern at The Chattahoochee Nature Center.
Spring 2019
Completed a year long undergraduate research project ending with presentations at both a university symposium and professional GIS conference, winning three awards!
Summer 2019
Worked as a GIS Intern for the City of Maryville after graduating. Learned the importance of networking and mentorships.
Fall 2019
Moved to Prague, Czech Republic to teach English as a second language. Realized that finding work/life balance is key.
Summer 2021
Worked at a resort in Egypt on the entertainment and guest services team.
Winter 2022
Began Career as a GIS Specialist for Roadway Asset Services, LLC.
